My firstborn is 21. He was my Christmas present on that Sunday morning. A fulfillment of one of my dreams. To be a mother. Since that day, he has paved the way for his two brothers and sister. Firstborns are the ones we learn what to do, what not to do, and even though we learn a lot from them, we somehow never perfect the technique.
Andrew gave me another gift this Christmas. It happened while I was letting down the hem of his suit pants for Josh’s wedding. He was keeping me company beside the ironing board. This son and man of mine (until he takes a wife) said, “Mom, I love you for who you are, not for what you do for us.” Off the cuff, my response was, “I’ve waited 21 years to hear that.” It’s true. And it was a gift to me from my firstborn.
God wasn’t kidding when He said, “ Children are a blessing from the Lord”. It’s his 21st birthday and we gave him gifts, but we are the ones that are blessed by his life. Keep following Jesus, Andrew.
